Recovery

Recovery following stroke is different for everyone, and can take place over a matter of weeks, months or even years. The most important thing for most people is regaining control over their daily lives. This may not start properly until after discharge from hospital.

Organised stroke care is vital in the first few days and weeks after stroke and 91 per cent of hospitals now have a dedicated stroke unit.

The Bridges group feel that a key part of managing the transition from hospital to home is for practitioners to work more closely with stroke patients in the development of self-management skills.
